Composition: Pumpkin Seed Oil (Cucurbita pepo var. oleifera Pietsch), Glycerol (E422), Food Gelatin.
Pumpkin seed oil (Cucurbita pepo var. oleifera Pletsch) contains large amounts of essential fatty acids, in particular linoleic acid (omega 6), which is a potent antioxidant, and protects the heart and blood circulation. It also contains cucurbitin, which has vermifuge effects, vitamins B, C and E, mineral salts such as iron, magnesium, zinc and manganese.
It also contains phytosterols, which have anti-inflammatory activity, and is therefore useful in the treatment of arthritic joints.
Its phytosterols, in particular beta-sitosterol, exert an important action on hormones like estrogens and androgens. In particular, in women, consumption of this oil seems to counteract, the negative effects of estrogen reduction caused by menopause, thereby resulting in a reduced incidence of disorders such as hot flushes and headaches, whereas, in men, based on its anti-androgen action, it blocks 5-alpha reductase activity through a noncompetitive mechanism. Such enzyme is involved in converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is responsible for benign prostatic hypertrophy and male pattern baldness.
The fatty acids contained in pumpkin seed oil are also known for their anti-DHT effects – that is, as inhibitors of the 5-alpha-reductase enzymes, which convert testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, the most active androgen with regard to common baldness and prostate problems. They also exhibit an anti-inflammatory action.
