VITAMINITY ANTI-AGE

Vitaminity Anti-Age is a food supplement based on several plant extracts that, according to numerous scientific studies, have shown to own the best antioxidant and anti-ageing properties.

It is composed of high-standardisation dry extracts of green tea (polyphenols), curcuma (curcumin), polygonum (resveratrol), milk thistle (silymarin), grape seeds (procyanidins), withania (withanolides), quercetin and black pepper (piperine).

These active substances effectively suppress free radicals – that is, those highly reactive molecules that, based on a so-called “chain mechanism”, cause different types of cellular damage (DNA, lipids, proteins) through oxidation.

Such damage results in marked degeneration, which accelerates the ageing process of cells; therefore, bringing elements that can suppress this process is of the utmost importance.

Ingredients: Green Tea leaves (Camelia sinensis (L.) Kuntze), dry extract titrated to 98% in total polyphenols and 40% in epigallocatechin gallate; Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum Gaertn.) fruits, dry extract titrated to 80% in silymarin; Curcuma (Curcuma longa L.) rhizome, dry extract titrated to 95% in curcumin; Polygonum Cuspidatum Siebold & Zucc. root, dry extract titrated to 98% in resveratrol; Withania (Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal.) root, dry extract titrated to 1.5% in withanolides; Quercetin, Grapes (Vitis vinifera L.), semi dry extract titrated to 95% in proanthocyanidins; anti-agglomerant: vegetable magnesium stearate; Black Pepper (Piper nigrum L.) fruits, dry extract titrated to 95% in piperine. Capsule shell: food gelatin.

Green Tea (Camelia sinensis), dry extract titrated to 98% in polyphenols and 40% in EGCG
For a few years green tea has been studied for its effects on the health and longevity of populations who regularly consume it in large quantities. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is the catechin to which several studies have attributed an outstanding role in the beneficial effects of green tea; so the best green tea extracts have a high percentage of this molecule.
In short, EGCG decreases the excess of cyclooxygenase (COX-2) which is implicated in cancers, such as prostate cancer. It also affects the expression of PSA (or prostate-specific antigen), which is involved in several cancerous processes, including metastasis. It regulates the genes involved in lipid oxidation and in the creation of adipose tissue, lowering insulin resistance and blood glucose, and thus proving to be effective in the prevention of diabetes and obesity. It protects the cardiovascular system by acting as an antioxidant and antithrombotic, and lowering cholesterol levels.
The other catechins and polyphenols perform similar actions and synergistically strengthen EGCG activity, so it is advisable to use an extract rich in EGCG, but containing other useful components extracted from green tea leaves as well.

Milk Thristle (Sylibum marian), dry extract titrated to 80% in silymarin
Silymarin is a complex of flavonoids (silybin, silydianin and silycristin) which has long been known as an effective liver protector. For this purpose, it is used pure to treat alcoholism and drug addiction problems (hepatic cirrhosis, alcoholic fatty liver, liver poisoning, viral hepatitis). It protects liver cells against damages induced by ischemia, radiation, iron overload, and toxins. It also seems to act against insulin resistance, and is being tested for its anticancer and cardioprotective activity, and against kidney and pancreas problems. Silymarin leads to the production of endogenous antioxidants in amounts far greater than could be with various supplements, acting on enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase, catalase and SOD (superoxide dismutase).

Turmeric (Curcuma longa), dry extract titrated to 95% in curcumin
Turmeric has undoubtedly been one of the most studied plants in recent years, for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects occurring at different levels and in various tissues of the human body. Particular attention has been paid to curcumin, its main active substance. It should be pointed out that curcumin protects cells from free radicals with many diverse activities, stimulates immune response, regulates TGF-beta, which is an important factor in oncogenesis, blocks the action of carcinogenic compounds similar to estrogens, and that of nitrosamine and other toxic substances, inhibits COX-2 and lipoxygenase, preventing inflammatory effects. It also seems to be as effective as aspirin as an anti-inflammatory, to be more effective than selenium, vitamins A and D3 and green tea in leading to apoptosis in cancer cells (in vitro studies). It blocks the development of cancer cells in the early stages of development, and is active in reducing angiogenesis by acting on enzymes AP-1 and metalloproteinases. It is also active against HIV (AIDS) and in the prevention of infarction and heart attacks as well as in reducing cholesterol (stimulating bile secretion).

Poligonum cuspidatum, dry extract titrated to 98% in trans-resveratrol
Trans-resveratrol has been the chief focus of attention in many recent studies on longevity. This stilbene is an antioxidant used by some plants (notably the wine grape) to defend themselves against parasites. Nevertheless, it seems to act in multiple ways on animals and humans. In particular, it acts on SIR genes (so-called “sirtuins”) and emulates the effects on longevity resulting from calorie restriction.
As an antioxidant, it is active against various forms of free radicals, preventing the oxidation of LDL (so-called “ bad”  cholesterol). It also inhibits platelet aggregation, thinning blood, blocking thrombin and other coagulation factors. It has been found to be active in the production of NO (nitric oxide), a compound that leads to arterial dilation and relaxation. Trans-resveratrol reduces circulating triglycerides and cholesterol as well as endothelin. Like turmeric, it stops cancer cells in the early stages of development. It has antitumor activity on a variety of diseases. It also reduces the negative effects of diets too rich in linoleic acid (omega 6). Whereas it does not produce any destructive effect on healthy cells, showing, on the contrary, a protective action on them. In addition, some recent studies have found it to be active as an antioxidant on brain cells, whose oxidative stress eventually leads to degeneration. A recent Chinese study showed the protective effect of resveratrol against inflammation of the spinal cord (similar to the action of the drug prednisone, but with greater antioxidant protection).

Ashwagandha Withania (Withania somnifera), dry extract titrated to 1.5% in withanolides
Ashwagandha is one of the best-known plants of Ayurvedic medicine – that is, traditional Indian medicine -, where it is used as a tonic, energizer, anti-ager, and against insomnia, stress, sexual impotence and mental fatigue. These traditional practices have also been confirmed by recent studies which showed powerful antioxidant activity by withanolides, which are believed to increase SOD (superoxide dismutase) and glutathione peroxidase activity in the frontal cortex and in corpus striatum. In addition, an effect against brain lipid peroxidation has been reported in animals treated with colchicine (a potent neurotoxin) repairing the damage in just 3 weeks of administration of Withania somnifera. In particular, Withaferin A, an active alkaloid of Ashwagandha, showed a potent anti-inflammatory activity against arthritis, without side effects. Besides fighting inflammation with results similar to those of cortisol, this substance showed febrifugal, analgesic and anti-stress properties similar to those of the same hormone.
It is therefore regarded as an adaptogenic plant useful against nervousness, stress, anxiety and mental fatigue.

Quercetin
This well-known flavonoid inhibits the enzymes cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase, reducing other inflammatory substances, including histamine, prostaglandins and bradykinin. Its action on the intestinal tract reduces reactions to food allergens and also improves the absorption of other substances such as trans-resveratrol. A study published in the influential scientific journal, “The Lancet”, showed that quercetin taken for 5 years on a sample of no less than 890 people had significantly reduced the risk of cardiovascular problems. It also enhances the action of vitamin C.

Grapes (Vitis vinifera), dry extract titrated to 95% in proanthocyanidins
Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC) belong to the vast family of bioflavonoids, natural substances that in recent studies have shown remarkable antioxidant and healing properties. OPCs are a unique example of biologically active antioxidants tested pharmacologically and clinically, for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Even more remarkable are the antioxidant properties that some studies have shown to be similar to those of two enzymes involved in fighting oxidative damage, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase. In addition, the strong scavenging power of OPCs against free radicals was found to be the basis for vasoprotective activity.
In addition, OPCs non-competitively inhibit the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which promotes the formation of the anion superoxide, with a potency comparable to that of allopurinol.

Black Pepper (Piper nigrum), dry extract titrated to 95% in piperine
This extract titrated in piperine is obtained from black pepper, which is used in a variety of products to treat fevers, digestive disorders, urinary difficulties, rheumatism, neuralgia and tremor. Piperine increases the absorption rate of many substances, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants, and in particular that of curcumin (reportedly elevating it to 2000%), making the other active ingredients even more effective.
